How TapIn is billed, and how to stop

Last updated: October 12, 2026TapIn Family Law, LLC

TapIn is a subscription service billed in U.S. dollars. Families pay once for a matter after a short trial, and a modest yearly plan if they keep co‑parenting on TapIn; professionals pay per seat. You can cancel at any time, and cancelling is as easy as subscribing. This page is part of our Terms of Service.

1.The service you are paying for

TapIn is an AI-assisted online platform, integrated with trusted service providers, for families going through relationship difficulty, separation or divorce, and for the licensed professionals who help them — counselors, mediators, family law attorneys and financial experts. A subscription gives a professional practice access to the TapIn application: a private workspace for each matter, the ability to invite clients and other professionals into it, connected-account and document tools, calendars, templates, worksheets and the AI-assisted features described in our Privacy Policy.

TapIn is software. It is not a law firm and does not provide legal, financial or mental-health advice, and a subscription does not include any professional services. See What TapIn is not.

2.Who pays and who doesn’t

  • Professional accounts are paid subscriptions, billed per seat. A seat is one named person at your practice — an attorney, a paralegal, a mediator, a counselor, an analyst. You can add and remove seats as your practice changes.
  • Family accounts are paid by the family member who holds them: after a 7‑day free trial, a matter plan billed either monthly (currently $39 per person per month) or as one payment for 12 months (currently $349), and afterwards an optional yearly co‑parenting plan (currently $79 per parent per year), with an optional financial add‑on (currently $49 per parent per year) to keep connected accounts and the financial picture. The co‑parenting plan includes inviting and continuing to work with professionals; a family may return to the matter plan by the month whenever a formal matter is open again. A professional’s invitation does not change these prices, and a family is never billed for a professional’s seat. Any fees your professional charges for their own services are between you and them. Before a 12‑month plan ends we email you: you can renew for another 12 months, step down to the co‑parenting plan, or let it lapse to read‑only access with export. A 12‑month plan is never re‑charged silently.
  • Families may join directly or by a professional’s invitation; the terms are the same either way.

3.Free trial

New family accounts get a 7‑day free trial with full access. A valid payment card is required to start the trial. When the trial ends, the plan chosen at sign‑up — monthly, or one payment for 12 months — is billed automatically; cancel before the trial ends and nothing is charged. We email a reminder before the first charge. If you do not continue after the trial, your account becomes read‑only: you can still sign in to view and export what you added; connected bank accounts are switched off; nothing is deleted without notice, and deletion follows the 90‑day schedule in the Privacy Policy after you close the account.

New professional practices get a 14-day free trial with full access. There is no charge until the trial ends. Before it ends we will email you a reminder with the date and the amount of the first charge. If you cancel during the trial you will not be charged at all. One trial per practice. A payment card is required to start the trial; it is not charged until the trial ends.

4.Billing cycle and seats

Subscriptions are billed monthly, in advance, on the same calendar day each month (the day your trial ended or your subscription began). Each charge covers the seats active at the start of that billing period.

  • Adding a seat mid-cycle is charged a prorated amount for the rest of the current period, and the full seat price from the next period.
  • Removing a seat takes effect at the end of the current period; there is no partial-month credit for a removed seat.
  • Your billing settings show the current seat count, the next billing date and the next amount at all times.

Practices may choose annual billing on invoice at the same per‑seat price. Family 12‑month plans are a single payment.

5.Pricing

Current pricing is on our Pricing page; questions go to [email protected] and is shown in the walkthrough. The price you see when you subscribe is the price you pay until we change it with notice (see section 11). All prices are in U.S. dollars (USD).

6.Payment, receipts and card security

Payments are processed by Stripe. When you subscribe you enter your card on Stripe’s secure, hosted payment page. TapIn never sees or stores your card number. We keep only what we need to run your account: the payer’s name and email, the last four digits and card brand that Stripe shows us, the amount, and a record of each charge.

  • Accepted payment methods: major credit and debit cards. Bank debit (ACH) is not yet available.
  • A receipt is emailed to your billing contact after every charge, and every invoice is available in your billing settings.
  • You can update your card or billing contact at any time in billing settings.
  • Charges appear on your statement as“TAPIN FAMILY LAW”.

7.Cancelling

You can cancel at any time, for any reason, in either of two ways: from your account’s billing settings, or by emailing [email protected] from the billing contact’s address. No phone call, no retention offer, no waiting period.

When you cancel:

  • the next charge is stopped — you will not be billed again;
  • your practice keeps full access until the end of the period you have already paid for;
  • we confirm the cancellation and the access end date by email;
  • families you invited keep their accounts; they can continue with another professional or export their information (see section 12).

If you cancel by email, the cancellation takes effect on the day we receive it. If you change your mind before your access ends, you can resubscribe from billing settings without losing anything.

8.Refunds

Because you can cancel at any time and keep access to the end of the paid period, we do not refund partial months. There is no refund for the unused part of a billing period after you cancel, or for seats you stop using mid-period.

We do refund:

  • billing errors — if we charged you the wrong amount, charged you after you cancelled, or charged a seat you had removed, tell us and we will refund the difference in full;
  • any amount a law requires us to refund; and
  • other cases at our discretion — if something went wrong that this page does not cover, write to us and we will look at it fairly.

Refunds go back to the original payment method and usually appear within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank. To request one, email [email protected] with the invoice number.

9.Failed payments and grace period

If a charge fails — an expired card, a declined transaction — we will email your billing contact right away and retry the charge over the following days. Your access is not interrupted during a 14-day grace period; we retry the card several times over those 14 days. If payment still fails, the account becomes read‑only; after a further 30 days without payment the subscription is cancelled, and export stays available; update your card in billing settings and the subscription continues as if nothing happened.

If payment has still not succeeded when the grace period ends, the subscription is paused: your practice’s access becomes read-only until payment is made, and if it remains unpaid for a further 30 days the subscription is cancelled. Your matters and the families’ accounts are not deleted when a subscription pauses; they are retained as described in section 12.

10.Taxes

Prices do not include sales tax, use tax or similar taxes. Where the law requires us to collect tax on a subscription, we add it to your invoice at the rate for the billing address on file, and it is shown as a separate line. You are responsible for any taxes that are not required to be collected by us. If your practice is tax-exempt, send your exemption certificate to [email protected].

11.Changes to pricing

We may change our prices. If we do, we will email your billing contact at least 30 days before the new price applies to your account, and the change will take effect at the start of your next billing period after that notice. If you do not want to continue at the new price, cancel before that period begins and you will not be charged it. Prices will never change in the middle of a period you have already paid for.

12.Your data after you cancel

Cancelling your subscription does not delete anything. After access ends, your practice’s matters are retained for the period described in our Privacy Policy, during which you can resubscribe and pick up where you left off, or request an export of your matters by emailing [email protected]. After that period they are deleted. Families you invited own their own information; their accounts are unaffected by your cancellation, and they can export or delete their information at any time.
